Classical music wins again!
In a recent study published in the International
Journal of Hospitality Management (reported in
Science, v313, p597, 2006) it was found that
people who entered a bar stayed longer and drank
more when classical music was played, as opposed
to the "top 40". If German music was played,
people tended to order German wines, while French
music stimulated them to order French wines. The
maximum effect, however, was seen when traditional
"drinking songs" were played! The makeup of the
"audience/pub crawlers" was not mentioned.
