Lucius Weathersby
April 8, 1968 - March 17, 2006
Dr. Lucius Weathersby was the organist for the Jackson Chapter's 16th Annual
Choral-Organ Festival with the Millsaps Singers, at Galloway United
Methodist Church, February 22, 2002. At the time of his sudden death
from a stroke, he was a visiting artist at Amherst College (MA) and
assistant professor of music and African world studies at his alma mater,
Dillard University in New Orleans. In addition to his B.A. (in German and
music) from Dillard, he earned the M. Mus. from the University of
Northern Iowa in 1999 and the Ph.D. from the Union Institute in
Cincinatti, OH, in 2002.
Weathersby was an accomplished organist and composer, and concertized
widely both here and abroad. He had a special interest in the organ music
of African and African-American composers.
A native of Houston, TX, Weathersby is survived by a 5 year old son
Lucius Weathersby of New Orleans, LA), a brother, two aunts, and his
parents, who live in Dallas, TX.
