WLEZ-FM radio is known for its “Easy Listening” format of American popular music standards and the Great American Songbook repertory.  Found at 100.1 on the FM radio dial, it is a non-commercial, community spirited station serving the Jackson Metro area, and streamed on the internet as well.

 

On Monday, August 15, at 6:00 p.m., WLEZ’s traditional programming will be/is now complimented by a classical music, two-hour program, “Musical Moments.”  The host is D. Royce Boyer, Music Professor Emeritus of The University of Alabama in Huntsville.  Dr. Boyer hosted a similar program on public radio station, WLRH-FM in Huntsville for over twenty years.  The format will be a wide variety of classical forms, e.g. chamber, symphonic, choral, keyboard and opera, introduced with brief descriptions of the music and its composer and performers.  Also, Boyer will interview Jackson musicians from time to time who have CD recordings and who will be performing locally.  Consulting the American Guild of Organists website “Continuo,” he will note live concerts and recitals coming up each week.

 

Station owner, Edward St. Pe’ is known for his interviewing savvy with underwriters and other guests of the station.  “Swing and Sway,” hosted by John Green.  He is very knowledgeable of “Big Band” music and its personalities and history.  The program is heard each week, Sundays at 6:00 p.m.  Luis Espinoza hosts “Tiempo Latina” Saturdays at 1:00 p.m.  Throughout the week there are interview programs featuring what is going on in Flowood and Brandon.  And The Jackson Free Press writers review activities of community interest each Thursday noon.
