Musicians and Organs in Covenant Presbyterian Church, Jackson, MS
Frances Warden was organist for Covenant Presbyterian Church until
shortly after the new building was opened in 1965. After that,
Glenn Gentry was organist until 1970, and choirmaster until 1968
when Maurice Thompson began directing the choir. From 1965 a used
Allen electronic instrument was rented, until 1969 when a 6 rank
Zimmer unit organ was installed, on an elevated platform behind the
screen at the front of the sanctuary (south of where the Trompette-
en-chamade is now). This organ was used until 1979 when the present
Ruffati organ was installed. Gerald Claxton was organist and
choirmaster from 1974 until his retirment in 1999, when Len Bobo
became music director. He was followed in 2004 by Dr. Stephen Sachs
who also chairs the Belhaven College Music Department. Covenant Church
is also home to the Covenant School of the Arts, which offers
instruction in music, art, dance and drama to school age children.
