ROB ROBERTSON AT ST. ANDREW'S EPISCOPAL CATHEDRAL, MAY 15, 2002

The program opened with J.S. Bach's Prelude & Fugue in b Minor,
continued with the Andante from Widor's 5th Symphony, Howell's
Psalm-Prelude set 1 #3 ("Though I Walk Through the Valley") and
ended with a Toccata by Gigout. I was not familiar with the Widor -
a meditative piece - or the Howell, which, with an ostinato-like
figure, matched the text quite well. The Gigout was a fitting
"book-end" to match the Bach b Minor, which I have come to think of
as a fairly staid piece. No more! It was given a memorable performance
with lots of registrational changes and a high level of excitement
throughout.
