THE CHAMINADE CLUB AT NORTHMINSTER BAPTIST CHURCH, JANUARY 11, 2003

  The sanctuary of Northminster Church was filled on the occasion of the
celebration of the lOOth anniversary of The Chanlinade Club. The progran
opened with Madam Chaminade's "Concertino, Opus 107," performed by Julie
Maisel, flute, and Judy Foster, piano. This was followed by seven pieces
which Mississippi College composer James Sclater had been commissioned to
write, namely:

"Waltz on the Name Cecile Chanlinade," Betty Young, piano;
"Describing Miss Cecile," Anna McDonald, soprano, Mary Taylor Sigman, piano;
"Laissez des vieux temps roulez," Nash Noble, mezzo-soprano, Cheryl Coker,
    piano;
"The Red Scarf Rag-Stomp," Susan Johnson, piano;
"Within the Circles," Andrea Coleman, soprano, Patti Sullivan, mezzo-soprano,
    Judy Foster, piano;
"Shadow Lines," Mimi Linehan, horn, Rosanne Smith, organ;
"The Humble Heart," chorus of Chaminade members, Lillian Lee, director,
    Joy Allen, piano, Lee Jackson, cello.

   In his compositions, Dr. Sclater faithfully and entertainingly reflected
the life and times of Madanl Chaminade, taking this French composer from the
Gilded Age seriously, but not too seriously. It is to be hoped that at least
several of the pieces may be heard on future occasions. Once again, The
Chaminade Club has demonstrated that it is long on talent. The area is
blessed to have this composer and this musical organization in its midst.
